Cindy Block

Cindy Block holds an MFA in Acting, a Voice Teaching Diploma and a Specialized Movement Teaching Certification in Embodied Practice.  She studied Acting at the Herbert Berghof Studio in New York and is a veteran actor of the Canadian stage.    She is a long standing faculty member of the Moving Voice Institute formerly the National Voice Intensive.    She has taught Voice, Movement, Storytelling and Collective Creation at the George Browne College Theatre Program, The University of Toronto, The VanArts Acting for Media Program, York University, Trinity Western University,  The Centre for Indigenous Theatre, The Humber College School of Comedy and privately for industry professionals.

Her Pedagogical interest is in identifying principles that bridge voice and movement in actor training. Her artistic research includes the extensive study and application of the practice of Authentic Movement to writing, performance and creation.   She has co-presented this research at the International Festival of Making Theatre in Athens, Greece, The Myth and Theatre Festival’s Summer University at the Roy Hart Centre in France, and at the Canadian Association for Theatre Research Conference.   She is pleased to be returning to University of Victoria’s Theatre Department this Winter.
