Timeline
The internship runs from May 1 to August 15 and includes ~250 hours of project work.
Funding
- partners pay the Scholar’s salary: at the UVic Research Assistant rate for 250 hours, with UVic managing payroll
- funding is available for a limited number of projects, prioritized for not-for-profit, Indigenous, community, or non-governmental organizations. If you’d like to be considered for full salary funding, indicate this on the project proposal template
What makes a strong project proposal?
We’re looking for projects that:
- tackle meaningful sustainability challenges, broadly defined
- provide actionable and impactful work suitable for graduate-level students
- include an identified mentor with relevant expertise to guide the Scholar
- have clear, achievable deliverables within the 250-hour internship term
How it works
What we provide:
- advertise your project across UVic to attract the right candidates
- handle all recruitment-related administration
- provide orientation training for Scholars and mentors
- support Scholars and mentors throughout the project
- manage payroll for the Scholar
- cover program administration costs
What you provide:
- interview candidates from a shortlist of well-qualified applicants, check references, and select the best fit
- identify a project mentor with expertise to guide the Scholar
- pay the Scholar’s salary (see Funding)
- cover any additional project costs (e.g., software licenses, travel, lab tests, equipment rentals, Indigenous honoraria, etc.)
