Olga Petrovskaya, PhD, RN is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing, University of Victoria. Two major components of her role are research and teaching. Dr. Petrovskaya joined the School of Health Information Science at University of Victoria as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in 2018.

Dr. Petrovskaya’s research interests include:

• Electronic patient portals (implementation; provider and patient experiences and attitudes; effects on provider workflow)
• The use of digital and other health care technologies in nursing and interprofessional practice

Olga is a principal investigator on several studies focused on eHealth and electronic patient portals. Her research is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), Women’s and Children’s Health Research Institute (Alberta), and internal competitive grants at the U of Alberta (prior to 2020).

Her methodological leanings and aspirations are:

• Ethnography, comparative case study, and discourse analysis
• Systematic literature reviews
• Other qualitative methodologies

Dr. Petrovskaya’s thinking about health technologies has been informed by Actor-Network Theory (e.g., Bruno Latour, Annemarie Mol), Activity Theory (e.g., Yrjö Engeström), as well as writings of Jeannette Pols and Lucy Suchman.

Olga’s first book, was published by Routledge in 2022.

Olga is Vice Chair of the International Philosophy of Nursing Society (IPONS) and serves on the Editorial Board of the Nursing Philosophy journal.
