Yuri Quintana, Ph.D. is Director of Global Health Informatics in the Division of Clinical Informatics, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Harvard Medical School. His research is focused on developing innovative technologies and systems that empower communities of healthcare professionals, patients and families to learn and collaborate on a worldwide basis. He has developed several award-winning global online and mobile collaboration networks that have had a transformational impact in pediatrics and cancer care. Dr. Quintana has developed the , a social learning network used by Boston Children’s Hospital’s network for global education in pediatrics, by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s global Prostate Cancer Network, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s for global education for sharing best practices in education. Previously, Dr. Quintana was at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where he developed an international education and informatics programs in pediatric oncology that reached 180 countries and over 40,000 health professionals. He led the development of POND4Kids an international collaborative clinical trials database; and , an education program to teach children, families and teachers about cancer and healthy living. Previously, he was a faculty member at the University of Western Ontario where he served as director of the New Media Research Lab developing innovations in interactive media and online education. Quintana was also a principal investigator in the Canadian HealNet Research Network, focusing on consumer health informatics. He has held high-tech positions at IBM Canada Limited and Watcom. He has been the chair of international conferences. He serves on the editorial board of several journals in informatics and education. Quintana obtained his engineering degrees from the University of Waterloo in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Systems Design Engineering.
