Andrea Thibodeau

Biography
Hello! My name is Andrea Thibodeau, and I am the Indigenous Student Support Coordinator (ISSC) within the Office of Indigenous Academic and Community Engagement (IACE). I am Cree with matrilineal lineage to the Frog Lake First Nation, which is in Treaty Six Territory, colonially known as Alberta. I grew up in K’ómoks and have been grateful to live on Lekwungen-Speaking Peoples lands (Songhees and Esquimalt) for over ten years.
I have a background in social work and graduated with my master’s in social work- Indigenous Specialization from UVic in 2022. For over eight years, I worked in an Indigenous non-profit organization here in Victoria, walking alongside and supporting urban Indigenous families navigating the child welfare system. My most recent work focused on substance use care, particularly research and engagement with Indigenous communities across BC and Canada. In my time off, I like to be near the water, as it brings me peace. I have taken beginner Cree language classes and love learning my language. I enjoy reading, beading, spending time with family and friends, and relaxing yoga. I am excited to step into the role of Indigenous Student Support Coordinator.
