CHEM 347: Quantum Chemistry
This course provides an introduction to the basic principles of quantum mechanics with applications to chemistry. The course will start with an introduction to quantum mechanical ideas, leading to the development of the Schrödinger equation and the postulates of quantum mechanics. We will then explore the solutions to the particlein-a-box, harmonic oscillator, and rigid rotor systems. These basic systems will provide a framework for understanding the hydrogen atom which is, in turn, a model for many-electron systems. Ultimately, we will be able to rationalize chemical bonding in terms of quantum mechanical principles.
