National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action against Islamophobia
On January 29 the University of Victoria recognizes the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action against Islamophobia.
On January 29, 2017, 6 people lost their lives and 19 others were seriously injured during an attack at the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec in Sainte-Foy. To commemorate the victims of this attack—one of the deadliest mass shootings in Canadian history—January 29 was proclaimed as National Day of Remembrance of the Québec City Mosque Attack and Action against Islamophobia.
The day provides us with the opportunity to remember the victims, their families and survivors of this attack and share information, resources and supports. This is particularly important as we observe an increase in Islamophobia on our campus and in our communities.
