University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany exchange
The Department of Sociology has an exchange agreement with the University of Duisberg-Essen (UDE) in Germany. Take courses in their (June 16 to July 11, 2025) and get credit towards your UVic degree.
All courses are taught in English and your weekends are free to explore Germany and Europe. You’ll choose one course to take in each 2-week session. See the .
How to apply
To apply to the exchange, submit the and your transcript to soc-internat@uni-due.de. Students should submit the UDE application form to the Manager, Education Abroad (Ruth Wax - ruthwax@uvic.ca) for review and signature before sending it back to UDE, along with their academic transcript.
In order to receive credit towards your degree at UVic, you will need to register and pay tuition for SOCI 357.
The application deadline is March 15, 2025.

The University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) is one of the largest universities in Germany with over 40,000 students.
Global and Transnational Sociology at UDE is focused on broadening the sociological imagination beyond the national borders of most sociological theories and empirical data to generate new understandings of cross-border social interactions and interrelations.
UDE’s Institute of Sociology (Campus Duisburg) includes several scholars engaged in studies of work and employment, social structural change, comparative and transnational sociology. Professors teaching at the summer school are also members of the Institute of Work, Skills and Training and the Institute of East Asian Studies in Duisburg.
