Students

Our co-op program allows undergraduate and graduate students to gain valuable experience in the field.
Prior to the first scheduled co-op term, all students complete an Introduction to Professional Practice course designed to prepare you for the work term. This will help you to enhance your skills assessment, résumé and cover letter preparation, interview skills and succeeding in the professional workplace.
While on the co-op term, you are supported by the co-op Coordinator and receive direct supervision from an assigned workplace supervisor.

What our co-op students do?
Work undertaken by our students is incredibly varied. Some of them are more interested in technical areas and might work for a private electronic records company, making program changes to the back end of an Electronic Medical Records system. Others will be involved in the testing phase of a system, ensuring that it works as it is supposed to.
Some co-op jobs will focus on project management, working with teams of people (clinical and technical) to ensure that an information/data management project moves along smoothly from beginning phase (procurement) to the end (final implementation and go-live).
Others will be working with data analytics, helping others to extract health data and use it to improve healthcare decisions for patients or entire health regions.
We will help our students to develop the important competencies during their co-op work-terms including communication, teamwork, managing information, project management, research and analysis and more. To learn more about UVic student co-op experiences, plese click here.
