The next application entry term is September 2026 with an application deadline of December 15, 2025.
We expect admission decisions for Sept. 2025 applications will be available in late March/early April 2025.
Health information science (also known as health informatics) is the study of
- how health data are collected, stored and communicated;
- how those data are processed into health information suitable for administrative and clinical decision making; and
- how information and telecommunications technology can be applied to support these processes.
Admission requirements for MSc Health Informatics
Applicants who meet the Faculty of Graduate Studies admission requirements will be eligible to apply for admission into the program. Applicants with an educational and/or work background in health informatics, clinical or health science, or information technology are strongly preferred. It is recommended that applicants have at least two years of relevant work experience. Applicants with a non-health or non-IT background or less than 2 years of work experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis. All applicants must have completed an undergraduate statistics course with a final grade of B or better prior to application.
Applicants with a non-health or non-IT related bachelor's degree should consider applying to the bachelor's degree program in Health Information Science.

Admission requirements for Double Degree MN and MSc Health Informatics
To be considered for the Double Degree Master of Nursing and Master of Science in Health Informatics you must:
- have a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited university
- have at least two years of relevant work experience;
- meet the admission criteria for both the nursing and the health informatics programs.
