International Students

International applicants (i.e., persons residing outside of Canada), eligible to enrol at the University of Victoria (UVic) School of Nursing (SON), are considered for all streams of the MN program (i.e., APL, NUED, NP, NUHI) and the PhD program. Inclusiveness is part of our vision. 

We recommend applicants to be familiar with UVic’s requirements for international graduate student admission (/graduate/info-for/international-students/index.php).

Potential applicants are required to: 

  • Hold a Baccalaureate and/or Master’s degree in nursing that is equivalent to Canadian nursing programs respectively.
  • International applicants who do not have RN registration and clinical work experience in Canada may consider the following areas of focus: education, research, and leadership.
  • International applicants who want to enroll in the NP program stream, must hold a Professional registration in Canada and specifically, the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) upon being accepted to the program

The applicant must be eligible for registration by writing the international NCLEX RN exam prior to acceptance. It is also expected that students will maintain active licensure as a registered nurse in the jurisdiction of their place of permanent residence.
  • Meet UVic’s English Language Proficiency requirements

  • Have completed one undergraduate course in statistics and one in research methods with a final grade of B or higher in each. Students who completed these courses more than 6 years prior to applying to the MN program are encouraged to review the content of these courses or enroll into an undergraduate statistics and/or research course prior to beginning the MN program.
  • Hold a Baccalaureate for consideration for the Master’s program or Master’s degree for doctoral program in nursing that is equivalent to Canadian nursing programs respectively. The degree will be assessed as a component of the application process to the UVic SON Graduate Education program.
  • Applicants for the PhD program need to follow all relevant requirements.
