Tips for Success

One tip that I would offer new international students starting their program at UVic is... Don't hesitate to ask for help. If you don't know the right person or office to ask, just make your best guess or reach out to someone you feel comfortable with. Even if they are not the right person, they can probably help you find the right place to ask. 

One of the best ways for international students to get connected during their time at UVic would be… Join events on campus (of course I would recommend Global Community events!), and introduce yourself to people you don't know. Most people are also looking to make friends, so don't be afraid to make the first move!

Student Success Tip: Of course your classwork is important, but don't forget that what you do with your time outside of classes is important, too. Take advantage of student work or volunteer opportunities to build your skills and learn about different career paths. Work on a passion project, explore our beautiful surroundings, take an elective unrelated to your major, or get to know someone new. Take advantage of the opportunities open to you as a student to grow in all areas of your life!

My path in international education started when I was a university student myself and had the chance to go on an exchange semester to England. I was hooked! Since then I've spent 8 years living and working with students in Japan and New Zealand.

Learning about other cultures can be a transformative experience, but living in a new country can come with unique challenges. I'm honoured to be part of the Global Community where I support international students and create cross-cultural opportunities for the whole UVic community.

Interests

I enjoy reading, hiking, and visiting new coffee shops - when I'm not planning my next trip!

Fun fact

I love yoga and completed a yoga teacher training program in India.
