Assistant Teaching Professor (2 Year Limited Term)

The Department of Psychology at the University of Victoria invites applications for a two-year limited-term Assistant Teaching Professor position to commence July 1, 2025.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach 7 term-length courses per year (typically a 3-3-1 distribution with the ability to teach more than one class per course topic). Teaching assignments will include core undergraduate courses in Statistics and/or Research Methods and at least one of the stream areas of Lifespan Development or Mind and Brain. Limited-Term Assistant Teaching Professors in Psychology are not expected to supervise graduate or undergraduate student research but can serve on students’ committees if desired.

Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track)

The Department of Psychology at the University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level in Lifespan Health and Development to commence on July 1, 2025.

Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in developmental psychology or related fields by the time of the appointment, and demonstrate the potential for developing a productive research program focused on the earlier period of the lifespan. The appointment will be at the level of Assistant Professor. We are unable to consider applications from more senior candidates. Applicants must present evidence of the potential for successful teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels in an environment that supports diverse cultures and perspectives.

This position will require the teaching of courses in lifespan development, infancy and childhood, and adolescence at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Expertise in qualitative methodology, interest in conducting or supporting meaningful collaborative research with Indigenous communities, or conducting research from a developmental perspective in the areas of health or environmental psychology are considered an asset.

Application review will begin on December 1, 2024 and will continue until the position is filled. We intend to hold interviews in February and March 2025.

Assistant Professor in Social Psychology (tenure-track)

The Department of Psychology invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level in Social Psychology. The position begins on July 1st, 2025.

Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in social psychology (or related fields) by the time of the appointment, and demonstrate the potential for developing a productive research program in social psychology that involves community-engaged, decolonial and/or Indigenous perspectives and methods (among other social psychology research methods). The research program should also have the potential for engaging Indigenous or local communities. The appointment will be at the level of Assistant Professor; we are unable to consider applications from more senior candidates. Applicants must present evidence of the potential for successful teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels in an environment that supports Indigenous and diverse cultures and perspectives. This position will require the teaching and development of courses in social psychology and/or environmental psychology at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including courses using Indigenous, decolonial, or community-engaged pedagogies and practices. Interest in conducting research in environmental, climate, or sustainability psychology; post-doctoral or equivalent professional experience (e.g., advisory or leadership positions in Indigenous communities, limited term academic appointment; work in industry or government); or expertise and interest in developing courses and/or workshops on community-engaged, decolonial, or Indigenous research methods are considered an asset.

Sessional lecturers

The Department of Psychology invites your expression of interest in delivering one or more Psychology course sections below during Summer 2025.

In keeping with Article 14.03 of the between UVic and CUPE 4163 (Component 3), expressions of interest are hereby sought from graduate students*, adjunct faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and sessional instructors in the department as well as from other interested parties.

Offers of sessional employment will be made from the pool of qualified individuals who express their interest in teaching one or more of the course sections listed below. Positions are subject to availability of funding and attainment of minimum course enrollment numbers.  It is anticipated that applicants will be contacted within 4 weeks of the closing date or sooner. The University reserves the right to fill additional teaching assignments from the pool of applicants for this posting.


*Graduate Students:  With the approval of their supervisor, graduate students who will have successfully completed their candidacy exams by April 30, 2025, may apply.  Interested students should discuss with their supervisors the trade-offs among teaching experience, additional income, and progress toward their degree.
