UVic announces inaugural Dean of Health

UVic is excited to welcome Dr. Tammy Hopper as the inaugural Dean, Faculty of Health for a five-year term beginning May 1, 2025.
Dr. Hopper is a distinguished leader with extensive academic, research and professional experience. In her current role as Dean of the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Alberta, she oversees a diverse community of faculty, staff and students; supports students and their success; manages resources and budgets; fosters community engagement; and directs operations in support of education, research and service excellence. Further, she has advanced several interdisciplinary initiatives in research and education, and she has direct experience strengthening professional programs and navigating accreditation.
Dr. Hopper is a speech-language pathologist and professor whose research focuses on improving communication and the lives of individuals living with dementia. She is committed to fostering inclusive health education, including through decolonization and reconciliation efforts. Dr. Hopper’s experience collaborating with Indigenous communities, embedding Indigenous pedagogy and advancing anti-racist approaches to health care align with the rationale for the Faculty of Health approved by Senate, and will help to advance UVic’s goals in these areas.
UVic's Faculty of Health will become operational on May 1, 2025.
